Newsflash

Dear Carl:

Thanks for sending this information, which I reviewed this morning. I also want to apologize for my slow response to your letter of inquiry (LOI). The delay was caused in part because we spent time reevaluating our interest in using grant funds to support efforts that seek to make it possible for marijuana to be used for religious purposes.

I regret to inform you that the grants program administered by the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) did not approve your letter of inquiry, and it is unlikely that we would fund your proposal. While we are of course supportive of your efforts, we have determined that the likelihood of your success with this litigation -- even with MPP grant funding -- is very small. A relative, but necessary determination given limited grant funds.

Additionally, we have decided to remove "Litigating for the Right to Use Marijuana for Religious Purposes" from our list of requests for proposals.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Vogel

Linda Senti and 8 others incorporated MDMCR on April 17, 2006.  We filed that complaint, and about 350 pages of exhibits, a memorandum of law and a motion for immediate, emergency, in camera (without the government) hearing.

At 4:03 PM Wednesday the court ordered:

ORDER re [1] MOTION for Permanent Injunction MOTION for Preliminary Injunction MOTION for Preliminary Injunction filed by Steve Scott,, Linda Senti,, Tom Brown,, Multi Denominational Ministry of Cannabis and Rastafari Inc. by Rev. Tom Brown,, Craig Tierney,, Tom Wahl,, Erica Womachka,, [11] MOTION for Hearing re [1] MOTION for Permanent Injunction MOTION for Preliminary Injunction MOTION for Preliminary Injunction, [1] Complaint, filed by Steve Scott,, Linda Senti,, Tom Brown,, Multi Denominational Ministry of Cannabis and Rastafari Inc. by Rev. Tom Brown,, Craig Tierney,, Tom Wahl,, Erica Womachka. On 7/12/2006, plaintiff filed a complaint seeking inter alia, declaratory and injunctive relief to prevent defendants from interfering with the exercise of plaintiffs' religion, which centers around the use of marijuana. That same day, plaintiffs filed ex parte motions for "for immediate in camera hearing" and "for preliminary and permanent injunction." Accordingly, the court ORDERS defendants to respond in writing to plaintiffs' motions no later than 7/18 /2006 at 12:00 p.m. The response should address whether defendants have indicated that they plan on taking any imminent action against plaintiffs. If defendants do not respond, the matter will be scheduled for hearing on plaintiffs' motions and an order to show cause why those motions should not be granted.. Signed by Judge Vaughn R. Walker on 7/12/2006. (gsa, COURT STAFF) (Filed on 7/12/2006) (Entered: 07/13/2006)
